Where to get your brunch fix in the Highlands

Have you been missing the deliciously wonderful experience of catching up with friends for a lazy brunch?

Or having a leisurely late brekkie with the family in the sun at one of our gorgeous local cafes? Us too!

So, what's so darn good about brunch?? Is it the way your poached egg pops perfectly when you pierce it with a fork? Is it the piles of pancakes washed down with the zing of a healthy juice? Is it the smell of amayyyyzing coffee? Or is it simply the fact that someone else has done all the cooking (and cleaning up!) for you!

Whatever it is….we miss it, so did a little hunting around to see where we can get our brunch fix in the Highlands as restrictions lift. Oh, and here's a list of more local cafes so you can share the love too. If you're still keen to stay inside and keep your distance, then you'll find you can still get take away and home delivery.

1 // The Shaggy Cow

This award-winning café in Mittagong has got a pretty awesome Sunday Brunch take-away and home delivery option operating at the moment! Two options, both delicious – choose from pancakes or a big breakfast! Just order on 4872 2966 by Saturday arvo to lock it in or order online . They are also open now Fri– Mon 8am–1pm for brekkie, brunch and lunch (social distancing rules in place, of course!) if you’re up for eating out.

2 // South Hill Kitchen

When you know the produce that comes out of the kitchen has been grown just a few kilometres away, it makes it taste even better, right? South Hill Kitchen’s brekkie menu is available for takeaway – which you can now eat on their terrace – until 11:30am. We’re talking smashed avo, Turkish poached eggs, kickass breakfast brioche rolls and more!

3 //  Janeks Cafe

The all-day breakfast at Janeks Cafe is pretty legendary. And it means if you have a late start from a hectic night before (hellooooo celebrating being able to hang out with friends again), this option ticks all the boxes! The Janeks team is open for dine in with outdoor options available and their takeaway menu is still operating if you fancy ordering ahead, picking it up and then heading back to bed.

4 // Exeter General Store

A local favourite! While the gorgeous team at the Exeter General Store is holding off on dining-in at the moment, there is an awesome takeaway menu you can choose from which you can then eat outside on their tables in the garden area. The coconut & cacao granola is filling and delicious. And of course, there is always the egg & bacon roll (the relish on it is next level, people).

5 // General Store & Cafe Berrima

These guys have been pumping out the goods during lockdown. You need to follow them on Insta – it takes some serious self-control not to lick the screen. Not. Even. Kidding. Amazing takeaway options are available from The General Store & Cafe in Berrima. Give them a buzz on 0452 390 718 to order. And you can dine in now too. Fuel up with their awesome big breakfast.

6 // The Boston

The ivy-covered exterior of The Boston in Mittagong is just the start of all of the pretty (and deliciousness!) . Awesome coffee and simple, honest food done so well. Our fav? Eggs Benedict, baby!

7 // The Vale Café

This place knows how to do healthy and yummy soooo well. And they’re taking the social distancing rules super seriously with perspex dividers and plant shelves to help keep us (and their fab staff!) safe. The Vale Cafe's menu changes seasonally so you’re guaranteed loads of variety and a whole lotta taste. Oh, and they have outdoor tables too (puppers welcome!).

8 //  The Whey Café at The Robertson Cheese Factory

The doors are open at this iconic building in Robbo with the new-ish owners (they took over at the end of last year) having given the Robertson Cheese Factory's The Whey Café a fresh injection of energy. Lots of airy space inside, yummo brunch options made from fresh local produce and the chance to check out their Dairy Store which stocks loads of local goodness from sauces to shortbread to chutneys and of course, the most delicious cheeses.

9 // Wingello Village Store

Okay guys, who’s up for a traditional English breakfast with all of the stuff?? Wingello Village Store do a cracker Grande Breakfast with everything you can imagine piled high on the plate – sausos, bacon, mushies, tommies, eggs, hash browns, baked beans and fried onions. Seriously, sooooo good! And the perfect weekend heart-starter! They’re open for dining-in following social distancing rules. Such a fun spot!
