Super Spots For Sunday Lunch With The Family

Super Spots For Sunday Lunch With The Family

Did anyone else grow up regularly hanging out with the extended family? You know….the long, relaxed Sunday lunches where kids ran around while the grown-ups kicked back on big tables overloaded with delicious food (and wine!).

Maybe we should bring that tradition back! Because who doesn’t love a long, Sunday lunch that ends with full bellies, happy memories and maybe a sneaky arvo nap?

We’ve put together a list of local restaurants, pubs and cafes that are perfect for a fun and loud extended family gathering – grab your aunts, uncles, parents, cousins and grandparents (if you’re lucky enough to have them living nearby)! Or if your local besties are your family in The Highlands, start a new Sunday lunch tradition with them. Fun!

Hickorys Restaurant & Bar

Okay it’s pretty hard to not mention Sunday lunch and a good old-fashioned roast in the same sentence. That’s why we are loving the Sunday Roast at Hickory’s Restaurant & Bar available during the chillier months of winter! Roast veggies including the all-important potatoes, steamed greens, Yorkshire puds – because is it even a roast if there is no Yorkshire pud?! – with delicious roast meat. A glass of wine is also included and prices start from only $35.

Kids Menu // Yep!

The Fold Loves // Sitting by the fire at Hickory's with a glass of shiraz and a belly full of Yorkshire Puds

Links House

If you fancy a meal by a fire, the beautifully restored and historic Links House in Bowral could be your jam. Open 12-3pm on Sundays, Links Table Restaurant focuses on seasonal produce and hearty meals such as Angus eye fillet with creamy mash – oh man! They also do an awesome cheese board if you fancy relaxing and staying a while after lunch.

Kids menu // Be sure to mention how many and the age of kids at the time of booking and the guys will sort something out for you.

Price // $$$

The Fold Loves // Wandering through the beautiful courtyard and gardens at Links House.

Imperial Hotel

This place is always deliciously warm in winter! The bistro at the front of the pub has a lovely big fire, but we are fans of the fire and the huge long table in Imperial Pizza. Book that table right near the fireplace, order seriously yum wood fired pizzas followed by gelato and you have got yourself a cracking Sunday lunch for the fam bam!

Kids menu // Pizza and gelato! Who needs a special menu for the kidlets when this is on offer?

Price // $$

The Fold Loves // The Nutella Pizza served with Vanilla Gelato…..hellllllooooo!

Ironstone at the Mittagong RSL

It’s pretty hard to go past Mitta RSL’s super dooper Habitat for Kids playground. With a soft play area for toddlers and a separate area for older kids up to the age of 12, this will keep the kids busy while the grown-ups catch up. There is a humungous menu with pizzas, pasta, steaks, grills, roasts and specials - no one goes hungry here!

Kids menu // The Little Nippers Menu offers up a Little Rascals Roast. Perfect for a Sunday lunch!

The Fold Loves // The space! Indoors on the couch by the fire or going al fresco on the verandah, we love that there are plenty of seating choices at the RSL.

The Argyle Hotel

The newly refurbished bistro at Moss Vale’s Argyle Hotel has been designed to be family friendly. Good value and great quality pub food and kids meals are only $9. The stone baked pizzas are a favourite with the kids too and a good option for larger groups.

Kids menu // Yep, and kids eat free on Sundays!!

The Fold Loves // The Parmi Plates!!

The Loch

A true paddock to plate experience, The Loch at Berrima is the perfect place to kick back for a relaxing Sunday long lunch with the extended family. The Tasting Room is open every Sunday from 10am – 4pm and showcases the best of The Loch’s own produce and other local deliciousness. And it’s kid-friendly. Plenty of open space for kids to run around, there is a cubby house with games and toys and they can also take part in The Loch’s nature hunt.

The Mill Café

The Mill Café in Bowral is a popular place for families with younger kids. A fairly large corner of the café is set up for kids with toys, books, big pillows, mats and colouring – kid heaven! A huge supporter of local suppliers and producers, The Mill Café’s menu is fresh and seasonal. Or if you fancy going al fresco, then you can grab a big table in The Mill’s courtyard out the back and order delicious street style food from the awesome vendors there.

Kids menu // Sure is…$10 for kids’ meals all day.

Robertson Public House and Kitchen

Who doesn’t love drawing on the ‘tablecloth’? This kid-friendly pub gives out coloured pencils and have paper on the tables, so kids can channel their inner Picasso while they wait for a yummy pub meal. Big tables in the sunshine inside or outside on the verandah with a grassy area for kids to run off all that excess energy. The Sunday carvery is a winner but get in early! For large groups, book a table and get there by 11:30am so you can be first in line for some succulent meats (two types of meat that changes every week) and yummy carvery sides.

Kids menu // Yep, pub classics and ice creams

The Fold Loves // Sitting in the sunshine on the verandah watching the kids run around on the grass.

Sutton Forest Inn

Views, space and sunshine! Sounds like a great Sunday lunch, right? Sutton Forest Inn offers up all three with large tables on their back verandah and ‘backyard’, gorgeous views of local farms (and one of the best spots in the Highlands to catch a sunset) and a big grassy area where kids can run around. They have an extensive bistro menu with a fab selection of daily specials to choose from too.

The Fold Loves // Having a family game of footie on the grass after lunch.

Burrawang Village Hotel

A local favourite and always worth the drive to the gorgeous village of Burrawang, we love The Wang! There is plenty of outdoor dining options to choose from. Tuck in under one of the two covered and paved areas, you can sit out in the sun (it’s sooo good in autumn and spring) or head down to the grass and set up camp with the family under the shade of a tree. Pub classics on the menu and an awesome view. Settle in for the arvo.

The Fold Loves // The Maugers Gourmet Pork & Fennel Sausages served with mash, peas and gravy!

Bundanoon Hotel

Not many pubs can boast about having a pool! That’s why we love the recently refurbished Bundy Hotel for a super cruisy, al fresco option in the warmer months. The pub’s pool parties with live music, special drink prices, large tables and big colourful picnic mats were a hit last summer and we can’t wait for the weather to warm up so we can get the party started again!

Kids menu // Sure thing and they’ve recently added wood fire pizza to the menu – kids pizzas are $12

The Fold Loves // Cooling off and floating on a blow up unicorn in the pool.

Glass Café

There’s something super warm and friendly about The Glass Café. The café’s relaxed environment means its kind of like having a meal at home! But with someone else cooking delicious food and doing all the cleaning up. We love the courtyard out the back, perfect for long and loud tables of family and friends. And they’re licenced!
