Planning The Perfect Highlands Hens Celebration

Are you a bride-to-be planning a last hoorah with your gal pals? Or maybe you’re the one in charge of organising a Hens-To-Remember for your BFF? Here are some fab ideas for a hen's celebration in the Highlands, no matter what kind of fun you plan on having!!!

Wants a girl’s night away from the hustle and bustle.

First stop, The Mill, Bowral for beautiful cheese from Cheese etc . Then head down to The Acre on the corner of Bong Bong Street and Banyette Street for some luxurious chocolates from Ms Peacock - such a beautiful (and delicious) space. Once you have all your supplies, you’re heading to Fulford Folly, a gorgeous four bedroom house in Bundanoon. This spacious accommodation will be the perfect getaway for your Hen’s Do and has all the luxe trimmings (think champagne bar, free standing bath and a fire pit!!). On your way to Bundanoon, stop in at Lee Lee’s Cupcakes at Moss Vale and pick up some next level cupcakes. Your tastebuds will totally thank you!

And it will be super hard to leave the luxurious surroundings of Fulford Folly so in-home catering is the go! Black Hen Kitchen specialise in boutique catering for small gatherings and weekends away. Think seasonal Highlands produce and delicious, traditional home cooked meals made from scratch. Soooo good. Or if you want to spice up the hen's celebrations, organise a Catering At Your Place chef to swing on by for some super-tasty yum cha, French Vietnamese food, cheeky dumplings or bespoke Indian deliciousness.

Loves a rowdy night drinking and dancing, and drinking and dancing.

You’ll start at The Imperial Hotel Bowral, with amazing traditionally cooked wood fire pizzas and cocktails to match. When you’re ready, you’ll walk less than a block to the Royal Hotel. Here you can have a few wines and a dance to the live band that starts at 8:30pm on Saturday nights!. We hope you’ve got your comfy heels on because you may only have a short walk from pub to pub - but you’ve got a night of dancing ahead of you! And vodka, lime and sodas, so many vodka, lime and sodas.

Or check out this article we whipped up on Bars Of The Southern Highlands for some more fun hen's night options - we loooooved doing the research for that one!

Loves getting creative and on the tools.

Hodak & Young run fabulous jewellery and metalsmithing classes in their gorgeous, contemporary Bowral studio, including a silver bangle workshop especially for bridesmaids. All materials – including sterling silver – are included and there’s bubbles!!

There are stacks of super interesting workshops available at the SHAC in Robertson that might float your hen’s boat – weaving, creating resin jewellery, arm knitting, making succulent wreaths, watercolour workshops and plenty more. You might want to chat to the SHAC team about their Life Drawing classes too, for something a little cheeky, if you catch our drift….

Here's a list of workshops held across the Highlands to get your creative jucies flowing.

Wants it all! She also loves to hand over the reigns and let someone else organise all the finer details.

You’ll be picked up by the Highlands Tour Co for a jam packed day of allllll the things! We love the sound of the Brides Delight tour which consists of a tour of Bare Body Beauty Co including product testing and kombucha tasting (we can’t promise you’ll want to leave empty handed!), followed by an antipasto platter and wine tasting at two award winning wineries (we can’t promise you’ll want to leave here empty handed either!).

Appreciates a seriously fantastic meal and goooood wine.

Birch is a beautiful experience for a smaller group for lunch or dinner. While you can do your typical entree, main, dessert, we think you just HAVE TO do the five course degustation with matching wines. We also think it would be outrageous if you didn’t start with one of their unique cocktails or the create your own gin menu (our secret fav). You should probably finish with one as well - after all it is your hens night!

We are also super blessed in the Highlands with some rockin' vineyards, wineries and cellar doors. Check them all out here and get in touch with a local tour company to ferry the group from cellar door to cellar door!

Doesn’t mind some retail therapy.

Mittagong has some gorgeous shops and plenty of local cafes on the main strip, so an afternoon spent shopping and caffeinating (in whatever order you prefer!) is a fun way to bond with the bride-to-be. The Fold love Twisting Vintage for some amazing and unique vintage finds, Just a Smidge for some trendy wardrobe staples and there’s the Mittagong Antiques Centre for treasure hunters. End the afternoon with a visit to Tractorless Vineyard’s Urban Cellar Door & Brewery in Braemar, for a tasting experience and yummo meat and cheese platter – they’ve got a deli on site so if you like the cheese on the platter, take it home with you!

Keeps fit and loves her activewear.

If you can keep up with your fabulously fit hen, take advantage of the awesome bushwalks we have in the Highlands. Cave Creek Walking Track and The Big Cutting at Hill Top, Bundanoon’s Erith Coal Mine Walk and the Box Vale Track at Mittagong are just some of our favourites. The walk up to Katoomba Lookout from Lake Alexandra is also a glute-burner and will take care of any extra hen’s weekend eating and drinking calories.

Or if your bride-to-be loves doing it on two wheels, hire bikes from The Fixed Wheel – mountain bikes, road bikes and electric bikes – and hit some of the awesome trails we have in the Highlands: from Welby to Wingello!

And wet the whistle post-walk or post-ride with an alcoholic kombucha (it's sort of healthy, right?) from The Taphouse in Moss Vale. Pass the Ginger Mojito thanks!

So we thought by p...
