12 Spots For Summer Sundowners
The Fold Loves // Summer Sundowners
We tend to be a little partial to finishing the weekend off with a quiet glass of bubbles, a chilled local wine or a sneaky brewski. Add a sublime view, fresh air or some cool al fresco surrounds and you’ve got yourself the perfect spot for a sundowner.
Here’s a list of local spots to kick back, relax and drink in a Highlands sunset.
Chilling out on Bertha's lawn is one heck of a way to spend your afternoon. Sitting back with a plate of those chicken wings and a cold drink. Plus a big bonus is the kids playground to keep the little ones entertained. Always a winner in our eyes!
The Glass Cafe courtyard is like a hidden oasis in the middle of the Mittagong hustle and bustle. It's a great spot to spend an afternoon winding down.
Burrawang Village Hotel
It’s pretty hard to beat the view from the Burrawang Village Hotel beer garden as the sun sets. Rolling hills and a glimpse of water on a clear day. Yep! Water views in The Highlands – it is a thing. The beers are cold, the wine is chilled, and the view is sublime.
The Argyle Hotel Courtyard
Moss Vale’s Argyle Hotel has a hidden gem of a courtyard out the back. With vertical gardens and plenty of seating space, you can kick back any day of the week for a late arvo beer.
The newly renovated Robbo Pub has definitely got its party dress on and we are loving the new look – such suckers for cute festoon lights. Park yourself on the covered veranda or hang about on the grass in front of the pub for a late arvo cider.
This boutique winery in Mittagong definitely has a cool, relaxed vibe about it. Grab a delicious bottle of the cold climate wine Artemis is so well known for, and take a seat at one of their outdoor tables literally right next to the vines. You could reach out and pick your own grapes! And fur babies are welcome - we LOVE that!
Swing by the Cellar Door at Berrima’s Bendooley Estate, grab your favourite drop and take a seat outside in the sunshine overlooking the vines as the sun drops behind the hills. You can’t beat the golden hour in a vineyard, right?
We love the super-relaxed vibe on the back deck of the Royal Hotel in Bowral. Colourful chairs hugging high wooden tables, leafy plants, bright brollies and plenty of cover with some festoon light action – this area has sundowners with mates written all over it.
In the leafy and luscious surrounds of Bowral’s gorgeous Green Lane tucked away behind Dirty Jane’s Emporium, Harry’s is such a gorgeous spot and open for Fridays and Saturdays for drinks. Take advantage of the fab wine list and cocktail menu or sip a glass of bubbles in the citrus grove - so al fresco!
The Sutton Forest Inn is the quintessential country pub. The spacious back deck faces west which means you can watch the sun go down over the farms of Sutton Forest. Tuck yourself in undercover on the veranda or grab the table down by the big leafy evergreen tree. Sipping your sundowner listening to cows moo in the distance and the wind blow through the trees….it doesn’t get more country than that, does it?
The best seats to watch the world go by or the sun go down are those coveted row of seats out the front. Plonk yourself down and set in for the afternoon.... perfect!
Berrima’s historic pub, the Surveyor General has two great locations to take in some late afternoon drinks. Watch the world go by out the front of this beautiful stone building under the cover of the veranda, or catch some sun in the beer garden and drink in a bit of history – literally – at this local favourite.
