JUNE MUST DO’S
WHAT’S ON IN THE SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS IN JUNE
Winter is finally here. The wind has well and truly stripped the trees bare and it won’t be long before the dog bowls start to freeze over! But us Highlanders are a hardy lot, right? A bit of wind, temperatures below zero and chilly nights aren’t enough to keep us from getting out and about and enjoying the best of what this beautiful region has to offer.
And boy, is there plenty on offer in June! Here’s just a taste of what’s happening in the Southern Highlands in June. And you can head to our Event Directory for a super-long list of great events to keep us all busy and warm.
As soon as we heard the magical words ‘pork roll station’, we were in! The Welcome to Winter Party at the Robertson Public House on June 1 looks like an awesome night out – DJ Dante will get the dance floor pumping, there’s a can bar, winter cocktails and of course, pork rolls (the best!) and most importantly, it’s a fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
GO WILD // Feast of the Beast
Magical. Mystical. Lively. Enchanting. Feast of the Beast is an experience that will hold you close, keep you warm, light up your soul and stay in your memories forever! CHOW DOWN // Pie Time
June in the Southern Highlands means that it’s Pie Time ! A hugely popular festival celebrating all things pie (mmmmm….pies), Pie Time serves up competitions, plenty of fun pie-related events – seriously, everything you can think of! – special pie trails and drives, all culminating in Pie FEST, a two day event at Bong Bong Racecourse. Who ate all the pies??? We did!
BELLY LAUGH // Confetti & Chaos at Mittagong RSL
Who wants to go to the worst wedding reception ev-ah?! This raucous night out on June 28 is brought to you by the makers of Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience. A super-fun immersive theatre and improvisation experience….you become part of the story as this wedding reception goes chaotically (but hilariously) wrong.
KICK BACK // Jazz in the Vines at Joadja Estate
One of the best things about June is the long weekend squeezed into it – yippee! And you know what that means…..Joadja Estate is hosting their (free – yep no cover charge!) long weekend Sunday arvo Jazz in the Vines on June 9. Relax on a picnic blanket, order a cheese plate and some yummo wood fired pizza, and sip on a tasty vino while you listen to the soulful sounds of the Mike Hammond Band, featuring Lou Bruce. And you don’t even need to book! Just roll up and prepare to chillout and relax…..perfect.
WET YOUR PANTS // Akmal Open For Renovations at Bargo Sports Club
Akmal has to be one of the funniest comedians on the circuit at the moment and he’s coming to Bargo with his Open For Renovations show on June 20. Akmal is keen to jump on the self-improvement bandwagon and will be asking the audience how he can get the perfect body, bank balance and emotional response to a road rage incident! Get ready for unplanned and uncut!
GET IN MA BELLY // Winter Warmers at Mumma’s Country Kitchen
Nothing says winter is here like delicious, comfort food that warms you up from the inside. Learn how to whip up delicious braised beef cheeks, a pot roast, cream of mushroom soup with focaccia and our favourite, crunchy roast spuds at Mumma’s Country Kitchen in Kangaloon on Saturday, June 15. This is probably what it would feel like if food gave out hugs!
Celebrate the long weekend with a bang – literally and figuratively - at the Burrawang Village Hotel on Sunday June 9. Fireworks, live music, awesome pub food and the fun village atmosphere this gorgeous town is so well-known for. Book a table though – this event is expected to fill up. Boom!

OPENING NIGHT // Ladies in Black at Mittagong Playhouse
