Date Night – The Fold’s Guide To Romance In The Southern Highlands
August 15, 2018
Whether it’s well overdue or something you do regularly, Date Night should be special. A chance to debrief your week in peace, to reconnect on a level that is often misplaced amongst the craziness of parenting or running a business or, perhaps more thrillingly, to fan the flames of a new relationship.
Whatever your current status may be, The Fold have developed this little guide to help get the party started – the rest is up to you (wink, wink).
A Super-spesh Candlelit Dinner
You absolutely cannot go wrong with the time-honoured tradition of a romantic dinner for two, particularly if you choose from any one of these exceptional eateries.
Birch – So, so good. You won’t be disappointed. Trust us, Birch is the whole package.
Biota – Have an experience to remember at two-hatted Biota.
Eschalot – Hatted and always sensational Eschalot is a rare gem. A must!
Katers Restaurant - A beautiful space that oozes romance with a menu that highlights fresh, local produce.
Onesta Cucina – A local fave and deservedly so. Simply delicious and fab service.
Feast at Berrima – Relaxed, fine-dining at its best. Superb modern-Australian cuisine.
Hickory's Restaurant and Bar – Gorgeous views (if you can stop looking into each other's eyes long enough to notice) and a delicious, seasonal menu.
Drinks and a Movie
If you’re after something a little more casual but just as special, a night at the movies followed closely by a delicious cocktail or two, is always a winner in our books.
Empire Cinema - Keep an eye out for film festivals and special screenings.
Harrys on Green Lane – A vibrant little hot-spot, tucked away inside The Acre complex.
Harvey’s Bar – Chilled out vibe and genuine bar-lounge atmosphere.
Southern Highlands Brewing and Taphouse – A fun and ‘bräuhaus’ feel with funky, modern décor.
The Gin Trading Co - Located within the Berida Hotel, relax by the open fire with a Pepperberry Gin Martini (or two). Heaven.
Live Music and Dancing
We absolutely lurve a bit of dancefloor action (date, or no date!) and we are lucky in the Highlands to have so many top venues that offer up live tunes each week.
Bowral Bowling Club – The place to catch touring bands in the Southern Highlands.
Moss Vale Golf Club – Live music every second Friday from 5:30pm.
The Royal Hotel – Music on the back-deck Sundays (in the warmer months) from 2pm plus bands most Fridays and Saturdays.
Also, definitely check out these venues which frequently have live entertainment;
If you’re looking for something to do together that’s a little ’out-of-the-box’, how about some of these fun ideas?
Achey Bakey Heart - So, maybe not your typical “date night” but definitely great fun and something a bit unique – and a fantastic way to impress the object of your affection with your culinary skills! Local businesses such as On a Plate with Anna, Southern Highlands Winery, The Cook's Cooking School, Moonacres and Centennial Vineyards Restaurant Cooking School regularly run seasonal cooking classes. The way to anyone's heart is via their stomach, right??
Twilight Picnic – There is something truly romantic about a sunset picnic. We are thinking The Gib, Berrima River, Lake Alexandra, one of the beautiful lookouts in Morton National Park or perhaps a local vineyard. The key is to up the ante on your picnic hamper, we’re talking some local cold beer or a bottle of local vino (here's a link to plenty of local wineries and vineyards), and it’s not a picnic without a cheese platter (go and chat to Hugh at Cheese Etc for sure!).
Bring in a chef –Pack the kidlets off to Nannas and bring in the big guns! There are a few local businesses that offer this awesome service - we love Black Hen Catering for a modern take on traditional family recipes. Fine-dining in the comfort of your own home, sign us up!
Hire a Limo - Yes! Do it! Go the whole-hog and bag yourselves a driver for the night. Talk about making an ordinary dinner-date an absolute winner! Southern Highland Hire Cars will get you sorted.
Later, Love Birds!
