Celebrating Special Occasions In The Highlands
March 21, 2019
We love putting the glad rags on and sharing significant celebrations with our nearest and dearest, especially when it’s right here in the Southern Highlands. We have so many great venues to choose from. If you’ve got a special occasion coming up, here are some ideas for you! Have a read of our list of fun ways and restaurants to celebrate with fam and friends.
Relaxed and rustic 21st birthday at Artemis Wines
A casual and relaxed alternative to the more traditional 21st birthday knees-up is having some wines in the vines with friends and family at Artemis Wines in Mittagong. This is a super funky venue with a gorgeous outdoor space and the guys specialise in catering for intimate, casual groups keen to kick back and shoot the breeze over some easy-drinking cold climate wines, wood fired pizzas and plates of cheese and charcuterie deliciousness. Yum!
30th Birthday brunch with your besties at Grand Bistro
Not every special occasion has to be after dark – Nan might want to come too! That’s why we love the idea of celebrating over ricotta hotcakes, poke bowls and poached eggs on a sunny Sunday morning with friends at Grand Bistro. Replace night time bottles of wine with refreshing fresh juices, organic tea and tasty coffee from The Grounds. The only thing that will be smashed at this celebration is your avocado!

Baby shower high tea at Hickory’s Restaurant and Bar
There’s something magical and a little bit decadent about high tea, isn’t there? What a lovely way to pamper and celebrate a mum-to-be. Delicately crafted desserts, savoury finger sandwiches and of course, traditional scones and jam with extra cream! Yum! Hickory’s Restaurant and Bar at Peppers Craigieburn is elegant and stylish, perfect for a gorgeous group of friends and fam celebrating the miracle of birth, and the miracle of teeny tiny handheld desserts.

Wedding anniversary celebrations at Biota Dining
Getting married is a whole lot of fun, right? But staying married? That’s a completely different kettle of fish and certainly something to celebrate. Biota Dining is a creative and unique venue and we love that they offer up plenty of options for couples or groups wanting to get together and celebrate. Pair delicious wines with a 5 or 7 course degustation menu, or keep it casual by celebrating outdoors in the courtyard or by the fire in the bar with some impressive grazing menus, casual share plates and crazy-tasty, handcrafted botanical cocktails.
Here's a list of lovely restaurants to celebrate your anniversary.
Adults only 40th at Katers Restaurant
By the time we turn 40, most of us tend to have a few little mini-me’s in tow. So, imagine a dinner where the only interruptions are the oohs and aahs of your guests as service staff place beautifully curated and cooked plates of fresh produce on the table. Pretty good, right? That’s why we suggest inviting a group of friends to a grown-ups only night out at Katers Restaurant, Peppers Manor House to celebrate the big Four Oh! Great food, wine and service, and no one will mention Peppa Pig!
Here's some more restaurant party inspiration for you.
Family reunion at the Glass Café
If you’re planning a family reunion or a fun catch-up with extended family, check out Mittagong’s Glass Café. The relaxed and efficient service combined with comfy couches and the art of local artists on the walls makes you feel like you’re right at home. The café is kid friendly (and pet friendly) with an outdoor space. It’s a great place to gather for good food, good conversations and a good time – perfect for a family reunion or catch-up!
Fabulous 50th at Bendooley Estate
The iconic Bendooley Estate is a favourite among locals and foodies. It doesn’t matter if you’re planning a big shindig or an intimate gathering of your closest friends, this is a venue that offers up plenty of event options. Book a big table in the Cellar Door space overlooking the vines, or celebrate under the king-sized chandeliers in the ambient Book Barn. The recently opened Stables is also a fab option for a glamourous, country celebration. Oh, and of course the wine is pretty spesh too!
