Another jam-packed month coming up in The Highlands and our Event Directory is looking full and fabulous! School holidays, long weekends and over 150 events for you to choose from – including Brigadoon! Och aye!! -  to keep you entertained, fed, watered and happy.

Let’s get this party started with some of our cool picks for things to do in April.

GO TO THIS // Brigadoon Highland Gathering
Every year this event just gets bigger and better! Bundanoon turns into Brigadoon on the first Saturday in April and the population of this southern village triples in one day! The Street Parade, kids games, Scottish dancing, strong men, loads of fab stalls – many of them raising money for local organisations and schools – and of course, the showstopper - the Massed Pipes and Drums performance. This is when pipe bands from right across NSW take to the oval at once for a rousing display of Celtic music that leaves the hairs standing up on the back of your neck – Amazing!

DRINK THIS // Southern Highlands Brewing Golden Ale
A pretty special collaboration is happening between Southern Highlands Brewing Co and Joadja Distillery and us locals get to reap (and drink) the benefits! Head into the Taphouse in Moss Vale to taste test their latest seasonal release, a delicious and easy to drink Golden Ale with subtle, tropical fruit notes. The barley is grown at Joadja Distillery and the hops are from Southern Highlands Brewery farm at Sutton Forest, making it a truly local beer and experience! What a great way to support local and quench your thirst. That’s a win win people!

MAKE THIS // Mosaic Workshop
There’s something magic about mosaics – so fab to make something so beautiful out of something so broken, right? But it can be super-fiddly if you don’t know what you’re doing. A full day of exploring ancient and contemporary mosaic techniques at Ashton Park Art Shed in Mossy will get you up to speed. Click here for more workshop details and info on how to book.

EAT THIS // The Loch Festival of the Roast
How’s this for the perfect Sunday afternoon out for lovers of fine food and seasonal fare? The Loch’s Festival of the Roast on April 7 is celebrating all things autumn with a decadent degustation menu showcasing grass-fed meats from the Highlands, tasty veggies from The Loch’s own garden and of course, the perfect accompaniment to any Sunday roast….delicious wines and ales from the Southern Highlands. Salivating much?

JUMP ON THIS // Castle Kingdom
A school holiday favourite for energetic kids and parents keen to have some (sort of) quiet time, Castle Kingdom is back at Moss Vale Services Club 14-18 April. Loads of inflatables including a giant slide, climbing wall, obstacle course, soft play area, and giant games. Run them around like greyhounds and they’ll sleep like babies! That’s our strategy.

EXPERIENCE THIS // Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens Plant Fair
One for the green thumbs, the Southern Highlands Botanic Gardens Plant Fair is on at the end of the month. Run in conjunction with the Autumn Open Gardens Weekend, the Plant Fair has something for everyone. Garden travel experts, food and wine, and a huge range of plants to buy from specialist nurseries – some are even coming all the way from SA and Victoria!

BOOK THIS // Drama & Art Workshop for Preschoolers
Oooh, we are loving the look of this. Play-Make-Believe is hosting workshops for 3-5-year-olds at Mittagong’s Glass Café on11-12 April. These workshops combine drama, music, movement, and art into one fun and inclusive class. What fun! Check out class times and more info here.

LISTEN TO THIS // Music in the Vines
Joadja Estate’s Music in the Vines held on long weekends has become quite the local favourite. Awesome local band The Black Dogs will be getting the crowd singing and dancing or at least tapping their toes on Easter Sunday, April 21. Stretch out on a picnic blanket and sip on delicious Joadja Estate wine, while you eat wood fired pizza fresh out of the oven and listen to awesome local muso’s. What a way to spend the Sunday afternoon of a long weekend!

LEARN THIS // Speak Digital Training
Hey business owners, you might want to pop aside some time for this one! Local business Speak Group are running a one day workshop on April 6 designed to give small business owners the tools, knowledge, and confidence to get strategic about social media. This will get you posting with purpose before you know it and it’s local – no schlepping it into the big smoke! Spots are limited so book online here.

GO TO THIS // Chevalier College Open Day
We all call it ‘Chev’ so let’s just roll with that, shall we? Chev is inviting everyone to come along to their Open Day where you can take student-led tours of the campus, check out all the new buildings and facilities, meet the staff and enjoy a free BBQ in the beautiful grounds. Such a great way to get a feel for the school community and what Chev can offer your child.
