Pie Time in the Southern Highlands

June in the Southern Highlands means that it’s Pie Time! A hugely popular festival celebrating all things pie (mmmmm….pies), Pie Time serves up competitions, plenty of fun pie-related events – seriously, everything you can think of! – special pie trails and drives, all culminating in Pie FEST, a two day event at Bong Bong Racecourse with delicious food (and loads of pies, of course), live music and the super-relaxed community atmosphere the Highlands is so well known for.

There is so much happening!! Scroll on for a run down of events, activities, experiences, special menus and deals to get this party (pie) started!

So many supercool and fun events associated with Pie Time. You name it! There’s an event for it. Cooking classes, bonfire nights, cycle tours, picnics, paddock to plate tours, astronomy nights, train rides and more! See? Everything is better with pie, right? Check out the events here.

It’s no secret the Southern Highlands is foodie heaven and when over 40 local cafes, restaurants, cellar doors, pubs and hotels jump on board and create a special pie to add to their menus for the month of June, it’s our tastebuds and tummies that benefit – yum! We’re just going to work our way through them all – who’s in?

The cooler temps in The Highlands means our super-talented winemakers create some delicious pinot. Check out the local cellar doors, cafes and pubs offering up a Pie & Pinot special for the month of June. Sounds like a match made in heaven….

Do you know what goes perfectly with champagne? Sweeeet delicious pies and tarts. These yummy specials are for those of us with a sweet-tooth and a penchant for all things bubbles!

There’s something pretty magical about indulging in a high tea, don’t you think? Teeny tiny desserts, yummy ribbon sandwiches, scones and to celebrate Pie Time, delicious sweet and savoury pies and tarts. Here’s a list of venues hosting high tea with a twist this month.

Bakers and chefs across The Highlands love getting creative at Pie Time. These bakeries, patisseries and cafes have created a signature pie that showcases the personality of their business and the produce of the Southern Highlands. Have a look at the Hero Pies on offer here

If you’re like us and planning to work your way around The Highlands eating all of the pies, then the Pie Trail is for you. Hey, it’s good to remember the Pie Trail operates all year round….just in case you don’t manage to fit all your pie eating into one month.

Behind every great pie there is a great baker making deliciously fluffy pastry and decadent pie fillings….meet our local multi-talented bakers and find out how they whip up their award winning pies (and keep our bellies full and happy!).

Pie Fest is a two day event at Bong Bong Racecourse with delicious food (and loads of pies, of course!), live music and the super-relaxed community atmosphere the Highlands is so well known for. More deets here!

This is one hotly contested competition! All entries must be in during the month of May with the competition taking place 29 – 31 May. The best thing? We get to taste the ones that win! Award winning pies will be on sale at Pie Fest on the last weekend of June. Save some space for that!

UPDATE // Hey guys!! Just dropping in to let you know the competition winners have been annouced. Hungry? Here's a list of where to head to taste test an award-winning pie in The Highlands.
