GREAT OUTDOORS

Surrounded by open fields and rolling hills, there is plenty to do if you fancy getting back to nature or catching some fresh air in Mossy. The Bong Bong Track - great for walking or cycling! - starts at the northern end of Moss Vale. Access it via Suttor Road or start at the car park north of the Wingecarribee River (turn right as soon as you go over the bridge coming out of town).

You’ll also find Cecil Hoskins Nature Reserve here, a birdwatchers paradise – check out the Bird Walk Track running along the banks of the river.

Moss Vale Golf Club is the place to be for those who love to hit the fairways (or the rough if you play like us!). We especially love the Drinks Cart that heads out onto the course on Wednesdays and Saturdays to load players up with sanga’s and refreshments!

There are some lovely parks in Mossy for gentle strolls, being pulled along by the dog or sitting under a tree and reading a book. Leighton Gardens is right in the centre of town and a local favourite for lunch breaks, picnics and just taking a breather! During the months of September and October, the garden beds are lit up with beautiful tulips (super Insta-worthy).

Seymour Park has a fab off-leash and fenced area for dogs, and a fabulous brand new playground (with toilets - yippee!!). Cosgrove Park on Berrima Road is also popular with walkers and puppers thanks to loads of space - it's a lovely 9 acres and is glorious at sunset.

RETAIL THERAPY

Wow, Mossy has really stepped it up in the shopping department in recent years. We are in love with the Birch Store and could wander around the beautifully curated homewares stores like Reece Furniture and homewares for days. There are plenty more stunning florists, lifestyle and gift stores on Argyle Street – exploring them all will certainly fill up a few hours!

If you’re looking to update the wardrobe, the iconic Whytes Clothing (established in 1895 – yep!) is a good place to start. Made By Others stocks stunning local fashion labels as well as other well known designers - you'll always find something unique there! And Highland Lady in Moss Vale Mall always has some gorgeous fashion finds perfect for the four seasons of the Highlands (which you’ll often experience in one day!).

WINING + DINING

Moss Vale has a thriving (and super diverse!) food and wine scene. From cafes showcasing local produce to Spanish-inspired deliciousness, fresh Asian food and fine dining experiences, wine tasting and awesome pub grub, we are lovin’ it!

Mouth Water Foods has award winning sourdough - seriously this bread is top-notch - as well as flavourful jams, marinades and relishes. And we love the awesome vibe at The Taphouse, run by the Southern Highlands Brewing team – cool décor, locally made craft beers on tap and great food.

There are plenty of pubs, clubs and bars in Mossy to visit for hydration purposes– we’re big fans of the family friendly bistro at the Argyle Hotel (and their drive through bottle shop – yay!). Pastry AND wine lovers should head to Flour Bar [yep they do both], there’s always plenty happening at Moss Vale Services Club, and of course if you’re looking for some kickbutt food with a side of fun and loud, head to the iconic Bernie’s Diner

Coffee lovers, brunch fans and those who love a baked treat now and then will be well-impressed with all the local (and awesome!) cafes. Work your way – and your laughing gear - around this list of local cafes! Don't forget to grab a selfie in front of the stunning Highlands Merchant mural - it's become quite Insta-famous in it's own right!

STEP BACK IN TIME

If you want a quirky look at the history of Moss Vale, local resident David Baxter has got quite an interesting collection on his property in Mossy. He engaged super-talented Highlands artist, Angela MacPherson to create a stunning mural as a backdrop for the collection. It’s quite amazing and celebrates Mossy’s history beautifully – read about it here

FOR THE KIDS

The kids can enjoy a dip year-round at the indoor Moss Vale Aquatic Centre – also good for keeping kids entertained on rainy days! Little ones will love the toddler splash pool and bigger kids can make their own fun in the 25-metre pool.

If your kids prefer the adrenalin rush of hurtling up and down concrete ramps, the Moss Vale Skate Park is just behind the Aquatic Centre.

The Church Street Playing Fields are awesome for kicking a footy around in the sunshine and if you have little ones who are all about climbing and seeing how high they can get on a swing, here’s a list of local playgrounds to visit.

Follow it up / bribe them with an awesome milkshake from Bernie’s afterwards and you’ll have a bunch of happy kids!

WHEN FRIENDS COME TO STAY

A seven-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Argyle Street, you’ll definitely impress your visitors with a visit to Mount Ashby Estate. We love the rustic and relaxing vibe here. The gardens are beautiful. The wine is plentiful (and delicious!).

Enjoy an afternoon cheese platter and a bottle of wine on the lawn. Or book a table (you can do it online) for lunch at the French-inspired La Palette. Wander through the beautiful antiques and fine furniture on display at Sally Beresford's French Farmhouse Tables and Antiques showroom. Or stock up on local wine at the cellar door.

The quintessential country experience in one spot!
