Wingecarribee Vocal Muster is a not-for-profit organisation assisting secondary school music students in the Wingecarribee, Wollondilly and Mulwaree shires. There is so much talent in our area, with little opportunity to perform and Wingecarribee Vocal Muster is creating those performance opportunities in conjunction with local venues.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
What happens when an opera singer living in Moss Vale has a chance meeting with a local busker who couldn’t afford singing lessons? A fantastic community initiative is created!
Wingecarribee Vocal Muster is a local not-for-profit organisation, founded by Mossy resident Richard Lane.
“A few years ago, I heard a young fellow busking outside the IGA in Moss Vale. He had the most wonderful, natural voice so I asked him who his singing teacher was,” Richard explains.
The busker’s response?
“I don’t have a singing teacher. My parents can’t afford it.”
Richard felt compelled to help, and realised that there were more young local singers who needed financial assistance and opportunities to perform. So the Wingecarribee Vocal Muster was formed!
The foundation’s goal is to find, support and encourage emerging vocal talent from local high schools and give them the opportunity to share their passion by performing.
“This gives them vital experience and confidence which helps them grow as a performer and helps them pursue their dream to sing,” says Richard.
Secondary school students from the Wingecarribee, Wollondilly and Mulwaree Shires are invited to audition for the three award dinners held throughout the year, culminating in a Grand Final Dinner Awards Night in July – the big one!
Finalists that perform at the Awards Night Dinner events receive cash prizes, music vouchers and singing tuition – such a great way to encourage and reward the performers and help them continue their ambition to sing and perform.
Singers from the Wingecarribee Vocal Muster regularly perform at local venues including the Highlands Golf Club, Bundanoon Club, Robertson Bowling Club and the list continues to grow.
What an amazing initiative! Please help this wonderful, local organisation support the super-talented emerging superstars of the Southern Highlands.
Three awards dinners and a Grand Final dinner are run throughout the year for finalists to perform along with guest judges and special guest performances. Prizes are awarded on the night including cash prizes, music vouchers and singing tuitions.
