Virtual Wine Tastings at Home
Chief winemaker of Tractorless Vineyard, Jeff Aston, said that he is initiating the wine tastings to make social distancing a little less isolating.
“For me, one of the best things about wine is how it brings people together in sharing an experience,” Jeff said. “I always love hosting tastings at our cellar door in Bowral -- they’re an incredibly social occasion. They’re a chance for people to try a selection of different wines, learn about how we’ve created them, and share their reactions and their thoughts.”
“With the appearance of the Coronavirus, and the precautions that we’re all taking to minimize its spread, I’m seeing a lot of friends and families restricting themselves to their homes. It’s the smart thing to do – the responsible thing to do – but I hate the idea of everyone just huddling at home, watching shows and movies in silence. So, we’re creating these virtual guided wine tastings.”
Tractorless Vineyard has put together tasting packages that customers can order to be sent to their homes.
“In each package, we ship samples of all our wines in 50 ml tasters,” Jeff said. “It’s the ideal size for two people to try each of our wines.
“Once they receive the package, people have two choices. First, they can watch the tasting guide on our YouTube channel. Or, they can be part of the tastings that I’m hosting virtually on Facebook live. These live ones I’m really excited about; people can write in with their questions and reactions while I’m live. It’ll be a bit of the sociability that we get to enjoy at our Cellar Door here in the Southern Highlands.
“We’ve already had people order packages sent to their homes and to their friends’ homes,” Jeff said. “They’ve booked parties so they can all enjoy the occasion together online, even when they’re all in their own living rooms.”
Tasting packages are available for order. Each package contains samples of several wines. Packages are $35 each, which includes shipping within Australia.

Tractorless vineyard is about combining old world knowledge with new world, sustainable techniques to create exceptional wines. We’re committed to reducing the amount of resources we use by integrating natural farming methods in our vineyards and winery. This enables the development of long-term, sustainability balance and diverse farming systems that continually produce exceptional wines which boast intense character and complexity.
We run our vineyards Biodynamically and then run sheep through the entire growing season which means we use the tractor 60% less which is where the name comes from.
In 2019 we took over Bowral Brewing company with the aim to bring Bowral brewing back to the Highlands. This has led us to create our venue located the Breamar industrial estate near Bunnings. We have created a fully immersive experience where our customers are able to taste our wines, drink our beers and experience the production first hand in the winery.
